If a Canon inkjet printer is showing error code 5100, it is saying that there is something in the way of the ink carriage unit. Usually some grease or ink on the thin film strip which gives the carriage the direction. Clean or replace timing strip. Then turn printer off and on and the error should disappear and printer back to work! Wish you the best! This fix will apply to many printer models.
