My Canon Pixma MX492 printer showed an error code 168a which means that there is a problem reading the ink cartridge correctly. In my case I had tape which was not removed when installing new cartridge and that may also be your printer's case, but there may be other factors which can prevent the cartrodge to be read properly. Best and first things to do is to clean the contacts and remove any objects such as tape or anything at all that may be interfering with contacts.
