So how exactly does the US military protect commercial vessels passing through one of the most dangerous waterways on Earth?
Well The US has two options — act as a distant Over watch using sea and air power, or physically escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz
But here's the real challenge.
Even with the I R G C Navy severely degraded, their small attack boats can still swarm and Fire their Zu 23 Anti Air craft Gun at the Civilian Ships.
Worse, The :Iranian can still launched this Soviet-era anti-ship missiles that can punch straight through a container ship's hull.
So how does the US Solve this Problem.
well It layers its defenses.
Destroyers form the outer shield, while Navy Seals board high-value vessels deemed primary IRGC targets — acting as the last line of defense if things go wrong up close.
Once the convoy clears the Strait and reaches the Gulf of Oman the immediate threat drops significantly.
But for the US Navy, the danger isn't over.
They still have to turn around and sail right back into the strait to escort the next convoy.
