מה ביקש מנהיג היהדות החרדית מרן הגאון רבי דב לנדו משגריר ארה"ב מייק האקבי?

ביקור יוצא דופן התרחש היום (רביעי) ברחוב הרב שר 15 בבני ברק: שגריר ארצות הברית בישראל, מר מייק האקבי הגיע לפגישה מיוחדת עם מנהיג הציבור החרדי מרן ראש הישיבה הגאון רבי דב לנדו שליט"א.

הפגישה המרתקת נמשכה כ-25 דקות, במהלך השיחה העלה ראש הישיבה את מצוקות עולם התורה, ובמיוחד את החשש מפני פגיעה במעמדם של לומדי התורה בארץ ישראל.

מרן ביקש מהשגריר כי יעביר מסר ישיר לנשיא ארצות הברית דונלד טרמפ, על חשיבותם של לומדי התורה לעם היהודי, ועל הצורך להבטיח את המשך קיומו ושגשוגו של עולם התורה גם בזמנים מאתגרים.

"חשוב לי לספר לכבוד השגריר כי ציבור שומרי התורה והמצוות כאן בארץ הקודש, נמצא בתקופה זו במצוקה קשה כאשר מערכת המשפט מוציאה צווי מעצר כנגד בחורי הישיבות לומדי התורה ב'עוון' לימוד התורה, אמר מרן הגר"ד לנדו לשגריר.

בתגובה לדבריו של מרן שליט"א, אמר השגריר: "אני מבין ומסכים שבלי התורה ובלי לומדי התורה אין ערך לכלום."

בכך הביע השגריר את הערכתו לעולם התורה והחשיבות שהוא רואה בלימוד התורה כיסוד לקיומה הרוחני של עם ישראל.

"אנא, מסור לו שעם ישראל חי וקיים בזכות התורה. לומדי התורה הם הם המגינים, ויש לשמור על מעמדם ולקדש את ערכם", אמר המנהיג אשר נושא על כתפו את עול הנהגת הציבור במהלך הפגישה.

עוד ביקש מרן הגר״ד לנדו שימסור לנשיא ארה״ב דונלד טרמפ את תודתו על העמידה לצד ישראל ״ברכה למלכות של חסד לנשיא טרמפ ולשגריר על ההתנהגות שלהם שהייתה למען היושר והאמת להשכנת שלום בעולם, הם מעמידים את היושר והטוב בעולם.

את הפגישה תרגם נשיא ארגון דרשו הרב דוד הופשטטר מטורונטו.

מקורב לשגריר סיפר כי הוא הקשיב לדברים בכבוד רב, גילה התעניינות רבה בהווי החיים החרדי ובייחודו של מוסד הישיבה, ואף שאל מספר שאלות בנושא.

בסיום הפגישה, הודה השגריר לרב לנדו על זמנו, מרן בירכו שיצליח בשליחותו לקירוב לבבות בין יהדות ארצות הברית לישראל, וביקש שוב שיפעל לחיזוק התמיכה בעולם התורה בארץ הקודש.


An extraordinary visit took place today (Wednesday) at 15 Rav Sher Street in Bnei Brak: The United States Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Mike Huckabee, arrived for a special meeting with the leader of the Haredi community, the Maran Rosh Ha-Yeshiva, Rabbi Dov Lando Shlita.

The fascinating meeting lasted about 25 minutes. During the conversation, the Rosh Ha-Yeshiva raised the plight of the Torah world, and in particular the concern about harming the status of Torah students in the Land of Israel.

The Maran asked the Ambassador to convey a direct message to US President Donald Trump, about the importance of Torah students to the Jewish people, and the need to ensure the continued existence and prosperity of the Torah world even in challenging times.

"It is important for me to tell the Ambassador that the community of Torah and mitzvot observant people here in the Holy Land is currently in dire straits when the legal system issues arrest warrants against yeshiva students for the 'crime' of studying Torah," said the Maran. The Grand Rabbi Lando to the Ambassador.

In response to the words of the Maran Shlita, the Ambassador said: "I understand and agree that without the Torah and without the Torah students, nothing has value."

In doing so, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the world of the Torah and the importance he sees in the study of the Torah as the foundation for the spiritual existence of the Jewish people.

"Please, convey to him that the Jewish people lives and exists by virtue of the Torah. The Torah students are the protectors, and their status must be preserved and their value sanctified," said the leader, who carries the burden of public leadership on his shoulders during the meeting.

The Grand Rabbi Lando also asked that he convey to US President Donald Trump his gratitude for standing by Israel's side. "Blessings to the kingdom of grace to President Trump and the Ambassador for their behavior that was for honesty and truth to establish peace in the world, they are putting honesty and goodness in the world."

The meeting was translated by the president of the Desh organization, Rabbi David Hofstadter from Toronto.

A source close to the ambassador said that he listened with great respect, showed great interest in the Haredi way of life and in particular the yeshiva, and even asked a number of questions on the subject.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador thanked Rabbi Landau for his time, wished him success in his mission to bring hearts closer between American Jewry and Israel, and asked him again to work to strengthen support for the Torah world in the Holy Land.
