Today, over two thousand years ago, the walls of Jerusalem were breached.

The Romans, using the siege techniques of the ancient world, besieged Jerusalem for several months, from the 10th of Tevet to the 17th of Tammuz.

With advanced warfare weapons including catapult stones, arrows, and battering rams, the Romans broke into the city from its northern side, through the weakened Beit Zita wall, and from there, they made their way into the city.

These catapult stones, which were found in excavations in the Western Wall Tunnels, were carved from Jerusalem limestone and served as the Romans' means of warfare in the destruction of Jerusalem.

Today, those same stones allow us to touch history and connect to the destruction of Jerusalem.

היום לפני כאלפיים שנה הובקעו חומות ירושלים.

הרומאים, בשיטות ההתשה של העולם העתיק, צרו על ירושלים במשך חודשים ארוכים,
מעשרה בטבת ועד להיום, י"ז בתמוז.

נחצבו מאבן גיר ירושלמית.
ושימשו את הרומאים כאמצעי לחימה לחורבנה של ירושלים.
