The Cantorial Project Cantor Yehezkel Zion A documentary series featuring new musical renditions for Sefardic cantors. Cantor Yehezkel Zion, one of the most prominent Sefardic cantors of this generation, grew up in Jerusalem. Gifted with exceptional talent, Cantor Zion studied at the feet of the greatest cantors of the last generation. He went on to serve as cantor in some of the greatest Sefardic synagogues and, most notably, was privileged to serve as cantor for the congregation of Our Master Maran HRav Obadia Yosef zt”l. For the past two decades Zion has been cantor at Congregation Bet Torah, a leading synagogue of the Syrian Sefardic community of Brooklyn, NY. The segments of the series are dedicated to various innovative melodies for the Kaddish prayers sung for the Shabbat and holiday services throughout the year and in accordance with the established ancient traditional maqam systemic of Sefardic Jewry. Cantor Zion has artfully combined classic middle eastern melodies of the 20th century with new tunes which are the products of his talented innovation. Additionally, we are treated to the renowned style and technique which Cantor Zion has developed during his musical career.
